A day celebrated worldwide, honoring a beloved brown beverage associated with comfort and memories. Yet behind its warmth was a lonely girl battling rejection.
Could coffee lead her back to faith? Before I tell her story, let’s go back to its origin.

The First Coffee Shop
The first coffee house is believed to have opened in Istanbul (then Constantinople) in 1475; Kiva Khan became a cultural landmark that helped shape Ottoman social life.
The Girl Behind the Smile
Laila had a bright smile, a contagious laugh, and a playful spirit. She spoke freely, often teasing and joking. But her cheerful, talkative nature stirred envy in some people.
The Rumor That Destroyed Her
Laila slowly noticed a growing distance between herself and her classmates.
When she discovered why, her heart sank.
A baseless claim began circulating among students, unfairly portraying her as characterless, and many believed it without ever questioning the truth.
The Storm Within Laila: School Betrayed Her Trust
Today had been the final blow. A boy had treated her harshly and crossed the line.
When Laila reported it, the school punished her instead. With no one willing to stand by her, she felt utterly alone.
The injustice cut deep. A wave of hurt, anger, and despair swept through her, leaving her heart heavy.

Coffee Healed her Pain
Her voice was silenced, and even her mother chose reputation over understanding.
Once the “bad girl” label stuck, she started fighting back, but it only deepened her inner panic.
For a moment, her only escape was cold coffee, but was it ever a real solution?
A Scholar’s Soft Voice Hit Hard
She had become rebellious, ignoring her mother and shutting everyone out.
One night, cold coffee in hand, she scrolled reels, laughing without feeling anything real.
Then her phone auto-played a video.
A scholar’s calm voice spoke about the consequences of slander and recited a hadith.
Hadith on Slandering a Muslim

Islam strongly condemns false accusations. She was startled; had he read my heart? She immediately turned her attention.
“Whoever falsely accuses a Muslim, Allah will throw him into Hell until he withdraws his false statement.”
(Sunan Abi Dawood 3597)
Wrongful allegations are not just words; They tarnish a person's dignity and integrity.
The scholar said, “Do not fear when people speak ill of you. Allah is with you, even if the world turns against you. Remember Sayyida Aisha (RA) when false news spread, Allah revealed her innocence in the Qur’an.”
The Islamic Path to Peace

As she listened to the scholar, something shifted within her. For the first time, Islam felt less like rules and more like peace, purpose, and guidance.
She began attending his lectures regularly. Slowly, the rumors lost their power, her bond with her mother improved, and the same school that once judged her now watched her thrive.
But one struggle remained.
Coffee.
The Ritual Coffee Habit
Over time, Laila noticed her habit taking a toll. Whenever anxiety struck, she turned to her daily brew.
What began as a coping mechanism had slowly turned into dependency.
She tried cutting back. She even took medication to control the habit, but old habits do not disappear overnight.
Curious and concerned, she turned to her Islamic teacher.
Is Coffee Haram in Islam?
"I drink too much coffee. Is it harmful for me?" she asked.
The teacher smiled.
"Coffee is permissible. It is neither haram nor a drink that clouds the mind. But moderation is key.
Even scholars who drank coffee to stay awake for worship did not exceed limits."
Is Coffee an Intoxicant?
"No," he replied. "The danger is not coffee itself, but excess."
Then he recited the words of Allah:
"Eat and drink, but do not be extravagant. Indeed, He does not like those who are excessive."
(Al-A'raaf 7:31)
He then shared a hadith:
Miqdam bin Ma'dikarib reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: " The human being fills no vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat enough to keep his back straight. If he must do more, then a third for food, a third for drink, and a third for breath."
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2380)
He elaborated that overindulgence in food, drink, pleasure, or desire can unsettle the soul. That is how Shaytan exploits human weaknesses.
The Confession She Never Expected
Then came a surprise she never imagined.
Her close friend, who had spread lies about her, stood before the class and confessed.
"I am sorry," she said. "I was jealous of you and tried to damage your credibility. Please forgive me."
The room fell silent. The same girl who had once accused Laila became a witness to her innocence.
Laila forgave her. There was no anger left in her heart.
Life Lessons for Teens: Coffee and Faith
From that day on, she embraced five values that shaped her life.
(1) Mindfulness
(2) Stability
(3) Self-Growth
(4) Compassion
(5) Patience
She also learned another truth: every young person is influenced by someone.
Bad company rarely brings benefit, but the right mentor can transform your life, guide your choices, and help you become the person you were meant to be.
Comment and share with someone who can relate to this journey.
