The Arts Council of Karachi: A Day I Can Never Forget
On Saturday, August 9, the Arts Council of Karachi, Pakistan, celebrated Freedom Week in honor of Pakistan's 78th Independence Day.
My daughter’s university proudly participated by performing a stage drama.Naturally, as a mother, I had to be there. It was a monumental day for her.
The Sacrifices of Our Ancestors
Walking into the venue felt like stepping into a miniature Pakistan, alive with patriotism. My heart, once weary, came alive again as childhood memories of singing national anthems and waving the green flag came rushing back.
Life’s responsibilities had dimmed that passion, but this year the celebrations reignited my soul.
My daughter’s play, “Hijrat” (The Migration), beautifully portrayed the unwavering courage of those who fought for Pakistan.
Theatre Drama "Hijrat –A Story of Migration and Sacrifices
It told the story of a father who lost his family during Partition, except for one daughter.
Grief left him in an illusion, so he spoke to his wife and children as if they were still alive.
The emotional climax brought many in the audience to tears.
He accepted his loss and embraced the nation's freedom as a blessing from Allah.
As a mother, watching my daughter and her fellow performers represent their country with such devotion on stage filled me with immense pride.
The drama paid tribute to our ancestors' legacy and patriotic spirit.
Love for One's Homeland: A Prophetic Example
The noble life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ beautifully demonstrates the spirit of hubb al-watan (love for one's country).
Prophet’s Love for Makkah: Hijrah for the sake of Allah
The Merciful Prophet ﷺ deeply loved Makkah al-Mukarramah, the place of His birth.
When the persecution of the disbelievers became unbearable, Allah commanded Him ﷺ to leave that city.
As He ﷺ departed, He ﷺ turned back with tears in His eyes and said:
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) narrates:
"How pure you are, and how dear you are to me. Had my people not forced me to leave you, I would never have lived anywhere else."
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3925)
This Hadith beautifully illustrates that true loyalty remains steadfast, even in the face of hardship.
The Prophet ﷺ's Love for Madinah After Hijrah
After moving to His new residence, He ﷺ settled there and transformed it into a stronghold of faith and Sunnah and prayed:
"O Allah! Make us love Madinah as much as we love Makkah, or even more."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 1889)
Building a Nation: The Prophetic Way
When Allah's Last Messenger ﷺ journeyed to Madinah, He ﷺ did not simply leave one city for another; He ﷺ built a new community through His actions:
Making du'a for the land and its people.
Spreading the light of Islam and knowledge.
Uniting people through faith and brotherhood.
Establishing justice.
Working for the well-being of Madinah.

Calling Out Lies When Others Stay Silent
Speaking the truth even when others stay quiet.
Refusing Bribery and Dishonest Practices
Rejecting corruption, even when it feels “normal.”
Demanding Accountability, Not Just Complaining
Seeking real change from leaders instead of only criticizing.
Clean Heart, Clean Nation
Clean your surroundings before demanding a clean system.
Inner Migration
Moving away from wrongdoing toward righteousness.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’s Secret
The Radiant City was revolutionized not by force, but by model conduct: one honest act, one fair step at a time.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teaches us to walk faithfully through every stage of life's journey.
Our Question Today (Independence Day Reflection)

• Will we unite or keep dividing?
• Will we act or post on social media?
Meaning of Migration (Healing Perspective)
Migration (Hijrah) is not about escaping reality. It means leaving behind what harms the heart and moving toward a healthier and safer environment. For deeper reflection, see the story of Prophet Yunus (AS).
Qur’anic Verse
“Indeed, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:11)

Psychology explains this as self-change, where healing comes from replacing negative thoughts and habits with healthier patterns (American Psychological Association, 2020).
Final Message
Loving our land, Pakistan, which was established on the foundation of La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah), is part of our responsibility.
Call to Action
This Independence Day is more than a celebration; it is a reminder to thank Allah for the blessing of freedom and that every soul deserves healing.
Through art and history, our youth made us realize that freedom is a privilege earned through sacrifice. Will we honor it or let it fade?
The choice is ours.
